Warrior Spotlight

April’s Journey

A Warrior’s Testimony

Hello, my name is April, and I’m a breast cancer survivor.

My journey began in 2022 during a routine yearly exam. Around December, doctors noticed some calcifications they wanted to monitor. What began as a simple follow-up turned into a year of six-month checkups, several biopsies, and in January 2024, I received the news that changed everything—I had breast cancer.

There’s no history of breast cancer in my family, neither on my mother’s nor father’s side. That’s why I share my story as a reminder: please don’t skip your yearly exams. Whether it’s your breast exam, gynecological visit, or any other health check—be proactive. Our bodies are temples, and we must care for them with love and diligence.

I also want to give special thanks to A Woman’s Work Dwelling Place Inc. for being such an incredible support during this time. Little did I know that after helping host breast cancer banquets and events for other women, I would one day be on the receiving end of that same compassion. Looking back, I realize God was preparing me even then, and for that, I am truly thankful.

Right now, my focus is on healing—but the journey hasn’t been easy. Because of multiple surgeries and time away from work, I’ve fallen behind on essential bills, especially lights and groceries for my family of five. My husband, Perry, has carried a lot on his shoulders while caring for our three active kids—two involved in cheerleading and football, and our oldest turning 16 in just a few weeks. As any parent knows, the love we have for our children makes us push through, but the financial and emotional weight can be heavy.

To help lighten our load, having groceries, meal support, and bill assistance would make a tremendous difference as I prepare for another surgery on October 14. I’m trusting God to provide and continuing to thank Him for His faithfulness through every stage of this journey.

To every woman reading this: get checked, stay encouraged, and never lose faith.
